A
26 years old woman was attempted rape by a drunken neighbour in Langathel under
Sub-division of Kakching in Thoubal district in Manipur yesterday. The Medical
Legal Case requested by the victim was refused by the medical official on duty.

reaching to North East Support Centre & Helpline late today told that Mrs.
Lata (name changed) of Langathel Moirang leikai under Kakching Sub-division in
Thoubal district a drunk neighbour intruded victims’ premises forcefully and
passed vulgar remarks and attempted to rape her. Lata’s husband was not at home
at the time of the incident. Her old aged mother-in-law was only was at home.
Lata
refused and pushed the drunken neighbour out of bamboo fencing gate and locked
from inside. He broke the fencing and
bat Lata repeatedly by lethal bamboo stick. She injured severely on her back.
The
matter was brought to village panchayat and the culprit refused to summon by
the village council and no medical help was provided for twenty four hours
until she was admitted in Community Health Centre at Kakching today at 4.30 PM.
The
victim was provided medical help by the medical official on duty
but Medial Legal Case (MLC) requested by the victim was refused by
the attending doctor in the hospital. While North East Support Centre &
Helpline speaking to hospital personnel, it was reported that the hospital does
not have any MLC format form.
“After
MLC was refused to the victim, her husband and relative went to Kakching Police
station to register the case,” says by a relative.
North
East Support Centre & Helpline spoke to police personal to help the family
members of the victim to get their complaint against the culprit registered and
book under the suitable section of IPC for the crime committed.
Lata
is married for last five years and has one son and one daughter. The husband is
a farmer and the family live on daily wages earning.
North East Support Centre & Helpline appeals to State Medical department to look into the provision of Medical Legal Case and its proceeding to the official on duties to render its service to the patients of the criminal offenses.
